Diabetes programs for SEBB

The resources below help member employers participating in the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) Program promote diabetes programs.

Why diabetes prevention?

Governor Jay Inslee's Executive Order 13-06 (Section 2b) directs the Health Care Authority to offer a diabetes prevention program (DPP). Washington Wellness is also a key member of the Diabetes Network Leadership Team (DNLT). Through this team, we work with statewide partners to develop strategies that align with the mission and goals of the participating organizations.

We need your help promoting diabetes prevention to improve the health and productivity of your staff and their families.

What is DPP?

At no cost to eligible SEBB members, DPPs are designed for people who have prediabetes or are at risk for type 2 diabetes. These programs provide ongoing support to help you:

  • Improve your health.
  • Feel better and more energetic.
  • Develop long-term healthy habits.

Clinical research shows these lifestyle changes can reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by almost 60 percent.

What is prediabetes?

Prediabetes is a serious health condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal. About 84 million American adults — more than 1 out of 3 — have prediabetes. Of those with prediabetes, 90 percent do not know they have it.

Diabetes management programs

Diabetes management programs can build confidence through resources and support.

Keeping diabetes under control can lower risks of diabetes complications. For example, effective blood sugar management can reduce the risk of eye disease, kidney disease, and nerve disease by 40 percent.
