Medically Intensive Children's Program (MICP)
Medically Intensive Children’s Program (MICP) provides medically necessary skilled nursing services to children ages 17 and younger.
These children have complex medical needs that require the support of registered nurses. Nursing services may be provided in:
- The family home
- Foster homes
- Group Care Facilities for medically fragile children
- Staffed residential home
This optional Medicaid program helps to keep families together. It also greatly reduces the cost of inpatient hospital settings, where these children would receive care without this program. View the MICP fact sheet.
Eligibility requirements
- Age 17 or younger (Note: Clients age 18 and older may be eligible for different benefits)
- Have complex medical needs (example, ventilator dependent, tracheostomy care)
- Enrolled in Washington Apple Health (Medicaid)
- Require at least four hours of continuous skilled nursing care per day.
Information and program support
Fee-for-service clients
If your child is enrolled in Apple Health (Medicaid) as a fee-for-service client, contact the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) Nursing Services unit manager.
Managed care clients
If your child is enrolled in an Apple Health (Medicaid) managed care program, contact your health care plan.
WIC Nutrition Program
The WIC Nutrition Program provides access to no-cost healthy food, health screenings, nutrition education, breast and chest feeding support and more, to people who are pregnant or recently pregnant, infants, and children under age five through an easy-to-use WIC card.
