March is Women’s History Month

Women’s History Month began in 1987, due in large part to the work of the National Women’s History Alliance. The month-long event celebrates the contributions women have made throughout history and are making today.

The theme for 2024 is Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. According to the NWHA website, the theme “recognizes women throughout the country who understand that, for a positive future, we need to eliminate bias and discrimination entirely from our lives and institutions.”

Along with International Women’s Day (March 8), Women’s History Month increases awareness globally about the impact women have had on our communities, nations, and the world.

The Health Care Authority shares NWHA’s goals of promoting women’s history through “education, empowerment, equality, and inclusion” and invites you to explore the role women have had in your life—whether due to their efforts in the past, or their efforts right now.
