Why diabetes prevention?

Former Governor Jay Inslee’s Executive Order 13-06 (Section 2b) directs the Health Care Authority (HCA) to offer a diabetes prevention program (DPP). The HCA Washington Wellness team is also a key member of the Diabetes Network Leadership Team (DNLT). Through this team, we work with statewide partners to develop strategies that align with the mission and goals of the participating organizations.

We need your help promoting diabetes prevention to improve the health and productivity of your staff and their families.

What is prediabetes?

Prediabetes is a serious health condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal. About 84 million American adults — more than 1 out of 3 — have prediabetes. Of those with prediabetes, 90 percent do not know they have it.

Diabetes management programs

Diabetes management programs can build confidence through resources and support.

Keeping diabetes under control can lower risks of diabetes complications. For example, effective blood sugar management can reduce the risk of eye disease, kidney disease, and nerve disease by 40 percent.

Where can our staff or I learn more?
