UMP Achieve 1 uses Regence BlueShield’s largest network of providers. The plan offers a lower monthly premium than UMP Achieve 2, but has a higher coinsurance (the amount you pay your provider) than other UMP plans.
UMP Achieve 1 is available in all Washington counties and nationwide.
In most cases, you must live or work in the medical plan’s service area to join the plan. All school employees are offered a selection of plans based on their county of residence or the county where their employment location is based. Some school employees may have more plan options if they work in a district that crosses county lines.
If you move out of your plan's service area, and your medical plan is no longer available, you must select a new plan. If you do not, the SEBB Program will enroll you in a plan. You must report your new address no later than 60 days after your move.
UMP Achieve 2 uses Regence BlueShield’s largest network of providers, but has a lower deductible than UMP Achieve 1 and UMP High Deductible. For most services, you can see a specialist without a referral.

When you enroll in UMP High Deductible, you are automatically enrolled in a health savings account (HSA) through our HSA partner HealthEquity who manages the account. This allows you to set aside pretax money to pay for qualified medical expenses, including prescription drugs and more. Visit HealthEquity or watch their on-demand webinar to discover the many uses for your HSA.
Additionally, the State of Washington contributes $375 for one enrollee and $750 for a family plan annually, which is distributed throughout the plan year. Once the money is in your account, it’s yours, and there is no deadline to use it.
