Shared decision making provides information that empowers patients to make the best choice for them or their family.
Take our free shared decision making training course!
Shared decision making (SDM) allows patients and providers to make health care decisions together. It takes into account what is important to the patient—and clinical evidence—so the patient can choose what is right for them.
Patient decision aids (PDAs) provide patients with information they need to make an informed decision. PDAs are tools providers can use as part of shared decision making with their patients. Through SDM, a patient has the information and support needed to make the best choice, based on their personal values and preferences.

For those interested, we offer a free SDM training course. The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) approved this training for continued medical education (CME) credits. Our SDM training is approved for 1.5 AAFP Prescribed credits. CMS credit is approved through April 3, 2024.
The Learning Community is a platform for organizations who are just beginning their journey in implementing SDM and PDAs to connect and learn from others.
