Disaster outreach services offer emotional support to residents during and following declared disasters in Washington State. The service is activated when counties find the need for emotional support is greater than their ability to meet the need.
New support program called Washington Listens
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the state stood up a Crisis Counseling Program (CCP) called Washington Listens in partnership with community agencies and tribes statewide. Washington Listens provides nonclinical support to people experiencing elevated stress due to COVID-19.
Teams provide support by staffing a statewide line as well as conducting community outreach. Anyone in the state can call, text, or video Washington Listens. The person calling will speak to a support specialist who is there to listen and connect individuals to community resources in their area if needed.
The program is anonymous and no identifying information is maintained.
