CMS approves 5-year renewal of Family Planning Only waiver
The Health Care Authority (HCA) received approval from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for the Family Planning Only (FPO) 1115 Waiver. The 5-year renewal is effective from May 1, 2025, through July 1, 2030.
The scope of FPO services remains the same, and HCA will continue working with CMS to explore opportunities for program improvements based on community input and data.
Key program updates
Expanded age eligibility for confidential services
The age limit for confidential services has increased from 18 years old to 26 years old. This change aligns with private coverage standards for dependents on their parent or guardian’s insurance.
Removal of pregnancy-related services from FPO
Pregnancy-related services have been removed from FPO in the Special Terms and Conditions (STC) from CMS. These services are now covered under After-Pregnancy Coverage (APC), which launched in June 2022. APC offers broader benefits, and clients are evaluated for the most comprehensive coverage available once APC ends.
