What we're working on
The Office of Tribal Affairs (OTA) works on numerous projects that serve and support Tribes, Urban Indian Health Programs, Indian health care providers (IHCPs), Tribal providers, Tribal-serving organizations, and Native American (NA) and Alaska Native (AN) individuals.
If you have questions about a project, please reach out.
Here’s a bit of what we do:
- Provide information to AI/ANs about health care coverage options, crisis services, transitional care planning, and mental health and substance use disorder prevention, treatment, and recovery support.
- Manage Sovereign Nation Agreements (formerly called Indian Nation Agreements) and other agreements with Tribes, Tribal-serving organizations, and IHCPs on how they deliver health-related programs.
- Develop policies and programs in partnership with Tribes and IHCPs.
- Provide technical assistance and training to Health Care Authority (HCA) staff and partners on government-to-government relations and cultural humility.
- Meet and communicate regularly with Tribes, Tribal-serving organizations, and IHCPs.
- Collaborate with Tribes and IHCPs to develop and maintain government-to-government plans for crisis, care coordination and transition planning, and mutual program goals.
- Work with behavioral health – administrative service organizations, managed care organizations (MCOs), and service providers to implement these plans.
- Facilitate meetings between HCA and Tribes, including Tribal Consultations.
- Respond to Tribal-and IHCP-related questions and issues.
- Provide technical assistance to Tribes, IHCPs, and MCOs on HCA policies for Apple Health (Medicaid) claims submission and adjudication.
