Washington Health Benefit Exchange (HBE), in partnership with the Health Care Authority (HCA) and the Office of the Insurance Commissioner, are working together to implement Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill 5526 (Cascade Care).
Cascade Care creates new coverage options for Washington Healthplanfinder customers. Enrollment will begin November 1, 2020, with coverage being effective January 1, 2021.
Washington Healthplanfinder offers individual market coverage, which is different from Apple Health (Medicaid) or employer-sponsored coverage. Our Public Employees Benefits Board and School Employees Benefits Board programs are examples of employer-sponsored coverage.
What is HCA's role in Cascade Care?
HCA is responsible for procuring the public option plans under Cascade Care. We are currently developing the procurement process. During early 2020, we will provide an opportunity for the public, partners, and others to comment on our procurement process. HCA plans to launch our official procurement process in late winter 2020.
