SEB Board expands benefit election period options for school board members

On May 14, the School Employees Benefits Board (SEB Board) met. Members attended in person at the Health Care Authority (HCA) in Olympia and remotely. The meeting was open to the public both in person and via Microsoft Teams.

The Board approved the following resolution:

  • SEBB 2026-01 — Election Periods for School Board Members, which would allow school board members to enroll in SEBB Program medical, dental, and vision coverage upon being elected or appointed as a school board member, during annual open enrollment, or following the loss of other coverage as defined by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). It also outlines when they are no longer eligible to participate in SEBB health plan coverage.

HCA staff provided presentations on the following:

  • Results of the employee benefits survey and optional benefits survey of school districts
  • Update on the Benefits 24/7 online enrollment system planned improvements

The Board met in executive session before the meeting adjourned.

The next public meeting of the SEB Board is scheduled for June 4, 2026, starting at 9 a.m. Board members and the public may attend in person or virtually via Microsoft Teams.
