HCA joins multi-state health care cost program
Washington State is one of five states participating in the Peterson-Milbank Program for Sustainable Health Care Costs. This program will provide technical assistance to our Health Care Cost Transparency Board as they set and implement health care cost growth targets. This is a first step toward making health care more affordable and transparent in Washington State.
What’s the Health Care Cost Transparency Board?
Governor Inslee signed the board into law last year (House Bill 2457) with the purpose of reducing health care cost growth and increasing price transparency. Each year, Washington residents are paying more and more for their health care. In addition, rising health care prices affect how health care plans (payers) pay health care providers.
The board is responsible for:
- Reducing the state’s health care cost growth.
- Setting a benchmark for the annual rate of growth of total health care spending in Washington State.
The next board meeting is on Monday, March 15, 2021, from 2-4 p.m. Visit our Health Care Cost Transparency Board page for the meeting link and to learn more about the board’s responsibilities. Learn more about the board by visiting our Board members page.
