HCA updates Value-based Roadmap, adds examples of statewide transformation efforts

Friday, November 2, 2018

The state Health Care Authority (HCA) has revised its Value-based Roadmap to set the stage for health system transformation through 2021.

The Roadmap describes how HCA's value-based purchasing (VBP) goals, delivery system transformation strategies, innovation successes to-date, and future plans to transition into value-based payment models will contribute to a healthier Washington.

The Roadmap is built upon several principles that are key to achieving better health, better care, and lower costs, including:

  • Rewarding the delivery of patient-centered, high value care
  • Improving quality outcomes and patient experience
  • Aligning payment and delivery reform approaches with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, where appropriate, for greatest impact and to simplify implementation for providers
  • Increasing the long-term financial sustainability of state health programs

New this year are several fact sheets, called Vehicles of Transformation, which provide information on programs and initiatives that help advance the state's VBP goals.
