Long-term disability insurance premiums (continuation coverage only)

Find out your monthly costs for basic and optional long-term disability (LTD) insurance.

Basic LTD insurance

lf you choose to continue LTD coverage while on continuation coverage (formerly LWOP), you must pay the $2.10 monthly premium.

Optional LTD plan premiums

LTD optional plan premiums are based on:

  1. What type of employee you are.
  2. How long you want your benefit waiting period to be (the amount of time you would have to wait for benefits to start after you become disabled).
  3. How much you earn.

If you enroll, premiums will be automatically deducted from your payroll as a percentage of your predisability earnings (your monthly base pay).

How to calculate your premium

To calculate your LTD optional plan premium:

  1. Pick your benefit waiting period.
  2. Find your employee type.
  3. Multiply your monthly base pay (up to $10,000) by the percentage shown above for the desired benefit waiting period.

Example #1

If you are a higher-education retirement plan employee with monthly earnings of $1,000, the 60-day benefit waiting period would cost $13.20 per month.

x 0.0132 (1.32% = 0.0132 when multiplying)

Example #2

If you are a TRS, PERS, or other retirement plan employee with monthly earnings of $1,000, the 60-day benefit waiting period would cost $10.90 per month.
