Apple Health (Medicaid)
In Washington State, Medicaid is called Apple Health. Apple Health provides preventative care, like cancer screenings, treatment for diabetes and high blood pressure, and many other health care services.
Washington Apple Health is an umbrella term or “brand name” for all Washington State medical assistance programs, including Medicaid. The brand name may be shortened to “Apple Health.”
Medicaid is the federally matched medical aid program under Title XIX of the Social Security Act (and Title XXI of the Social Security Act for the Children’s Health Insurance Plan) that covers the Categorically Needy (CN) and Medically Needy (MN) programs.
The Health Care Authority (HCA) administers most Washington Apple Health programs. The Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) administers the Classic Medicaid programs.
